African Wild Dog

PhD Project

PhD Project Plans

This project is in the early stages but I plan to produce a PhD application later this year for a September 2020 start.

I intend to study the factors (aside from good quality, well maintained fences) that help stop African Wild Dogs escaping from fenced Reserves and National Parks in KwaZulu Natal. When the dogs escape the can encounter a hostile human-dominated environment where they are often persecuted and killed.

I will study the impacts of tourists and other carnivores inside the Parks and the presence of local communities around them.

This project will be undertaken in conjunction with WildlifeACT and with the kind permission and assistance of Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife and the various Reserves and National Parks.
